This page explains what personal data Ballyrags Comedy collects, why, who we share it with, and what your rights are. We try to keep collection to the minimum we need to put on great shows and sell the odd t-shirt.

Who we are

Ballyrags Comedy operates ballyrags.com and our ticketed events on the Isle of Wight. The legal entity behind the site will be confirmed once registration is complete; in the meantime reach us at shout@ballyrags.com.

What we collect and why

We collect personal data in three contexts: ticket purchases, shop orders, and performer applications. We don't run any third-party analytics or marketing trackers at the moment — only the technical cookies needed for the site, basket and payment to work.

Tickets (Hi.Events)

Tickets are sold via our self-hosted Hi.Events instance at events.ballyrags.com. When you buy a ticket we collect your name, email and the details of your order so we can issue and check in your ticket. Payment is processed by Stripe — we never see or store your card details. Hi.Events runs on our own server in the UK.

Shop (Stripe + shipping)

When you buy merch or a Gold Card on the shop we collect: your name, email, billing country (always) and shipping address (when the item needs posting). Payment is processed by Stripe (US/UK); your card details go to Stripe directly and never to us. We keep an order record so we can fulfil and refer back to it; orders are stored in our Sanity CMS.

Performer applications

When you apply to perform via the apply form we collect: your name, email, mobile, the social and promo links you provide, and the "about you" text. We pass that submission straight through to our internal Ops Admin at ops.ballyrags.com (also our server in the UK) where Toby and Luc review and either get in touch or politely decline. The data is held only so we can consider you and follow up.

Contact form

General contact-form messages are sent to shout@ballyrags.com via our SMTP relay. We don't store them anywhere else; once we've replied we keep the email correspondence as we would any other.

Newsletter

If you sign up to the mailing list we send your email to Mailchimp (US) to manage that list. You can unsubscribe at any time from any newsletter.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to make the site work and to process ticket payments securely. With your consent, we also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are popular, how people find us, and how the site performs — so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes limited data (such as approximate location, device, and how you browse our site); we've enabled IP anonymisation, we don't use it to identify you personally, and we never sell or share it. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept via our cookie banner, and you can change your choice anytime using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer. See Google's Privacy Policy for how Google handles data.

Who we share data with

Operationally we use these third-party processors:

Stripe (US/UK) — to take payments for tickets, merch and memberships.

Mailchimp (US) — to send the mailing list.

Sanity (US) — our content management system, where editorial content and shop order records are stored. Naming Sanity as a US processor is the data-residency decision we made for this site.

We don't sell or share your data with anyone else.

International transfers

Stripe, Mailchimp and Sanity are headquartered in the US. UK GDPR allows transfers of personal data to these providers under their standard contractual clauses; we rely on those.

How long we keep things

Order records: kept while we're legally required to (HMRC retention rules), then deleted or archived. Performer applications: kept for as long as you're a current or potential performer; deleted on request. Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

You can ask us to: tell you what data we hold on you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for a specific thing. Email shout@ballyrags.com with the request and a way to verify you and we'll get back to you within a month. If you're not happy with how we've handled your data you can complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.
